Nit picking?

How come so many questions are repeated, when they have already been answered further down the page / pages. Do people not bother to check this, even when, during the process of posting a question, you are asked to check the list of previous posts before going ahead? Is it just me being picky or does this just clog up the pages with unnecessary posts?

I fear answering this will clog up the pages!
No you are not nit picking. I get annoyed when people keep posting questions that have already been answered. After all when you submit a Q you are directed to "has your question been answered before".Also people post crossword questions in other sections and then wonder why nobody answers them. What really annoys me is this Nameless Novel thing.I have lost count of the times I have directed them to Wikepedia.Rant over.I don't usually rant but thought I would today for a change!!
It is NOT you being picky and it DOES clog up the page with unnecessary posts. Further to that, it requires the answers to be given again which wastes time. I leave you to decide what I think about the matter!!
Someone, last week, actually admitted they use the answerbank first rather than trying to find the answers themselves and without checking previous posts. Talk about laziness. I don't mind helping out with answers but this person takes the biscuit.
I'm with you 100%. My other gripe is that 90% of questions can be answered by a simple Google search. Don't people know how to use search engines?

And the people who post 10 or so clues from one crossword - why not just take up another hobby?!!

I on the other hand do it the other way round, I dont buy a crossword anymore, I just come on here and try to help with ones that people are stuck on, its like having all the fun without any of the expense!!!!!

The other thing I really dislike is when you have answered a clue and there is no aknowledgement. A little bit of common courtesy is all that's needed.
Id have to agree there fergol, manners cost nothing.
I totally agree with all of the above.
Well asked barender

I agree with all the comments but as there is no search facility if your title doesnt resemble other peoples you dont see the other questions before you submit.

But I really really do agree that there can be no fun in just getting someone else to answer them when a bit of research will find them

Ah but there IS a category search smouse, which would, if used, go a long way towards stopping the duplication of questions. Sadly it appears not to be used enough.

Bang on everybody. I've only been a contributor for a few weeks, and it's astonishing how many times the same questions crop up. The Telegraph GK crosswords could probably be completed several times over (viz Haldane this week) just by looking here. Surely the whole point is to work it out yourself then, if all else fails and only then, come here. I would be embarrassed to be asking for answers to something that had only come out that day.

Sorry, rant over. Have a good day

Thank you all so much for your input. Glad to know I'm not the only one who thinks like this. I agree with all the other points made - especially the 'laziness' factor and the obvious point that a lot of people do not even 'google' for the answers first.

Now we've got that out of our systems . . . .perhaps some people will get the point!
