There are 439 children in total, and he started the day with 4000 sweets.
10 x 4/5 g = 8g (so this averages out at 8 sweets per girl)
12 x 2/3 b = 8b (so this averages out at 8 sweets per boy)
This therefore averages out at 8 sweets per child. 439 x 8 = 3512.
4000 - 3512 = 488
