My cat is now 18 months old. Very sweet most of the time, but since neutering she doesnt like being picked up, or put down, but actually is fine in between, while I am holding her. She seems to have got grumpier since neutering. She seems to be hungry and meows for food most of the time, and now has quite a rounded belly, she weighs around 3.7kg. I think its kg! I feed her a sachet of HiLife around 9.30am and the same around 3.30pm with a small amount of Whiskas milk to keep her quiet around 12.30pm, I am a bit worried about overfeeding. Now I have noticed she has started a very short loud yowl, four times today, for no reason. When I stroke her, she is not vicious though. Could there be something wrong with her?
Oh, also she doesnt like her back being stroked, she gives a pretend bite if I try, just loves her head being stroked. Sorry if I sound a bit paranoid!
All cats have different personalities and not liking being picked up or stroked (except on their terms ) is very common. I have a cat who will go mad if you try to pick her up or hold her. 3.7 kg is not at all heavy, I'd wonder if you aren't actually feeding her enough, my cats would yowl all day if they only got fed twice :-).I would just ask if she's been wormed regularly as that could make her ask for food and have a rounded belly. Other than that I wouldn't worry so much.
Yes she is wormed and flead regularly. I am a bit worried about the yowling, it happens when we are in the room, for no reason, when she is laying next to me relaxing, or sitting down, but she is fine with it, almost as if it didnt happen. It seems a bit odd.
Cats like to graze, does she like dried food? My cats only get meat once a day but there is dried food out all day for them and they eat when they want.
Unfortunately neutering can change the cats personality - it doesn't happen often thankfully.
Take her for a check up won't do any harm.
I would get her to the vet, to me her behaviour would suggest she could be in pain. Is she has a problem in her tummy making it swollen then the action of picking her up/down could be very uncomfortable for her. It might not be the case but if it were me I'd like to rule it out as soon as possible.
Well I dont want to speak too soon but ... i took her collar off today and there was a sharp piece at the end, possibly digging in her neck from time to time. No collar at the moment till she goes out tomorrow so fingers crossed... Thanks all.
