How to I permanently break up my allotment soil? I go over it with a rotavator but within weaks it clods-up again. Should I be adding something to it?

The only way is to introduce large amounts of organic material. Sharp sand will also help but don't add sand on its own or a cement-like mixture may result. Best time to do this is the autumn. It may take a couple of years of treatment to come good. You can also use chemicals but these tend to be detrimental to plants, affect soil ph etc.
