'Grumpy is too happy and Bert the chimney sweep too cheerful'

A study from Duke University in North Carolina finds that Disney films misrepresent the misery of working class life by portraying it as free of difficulties. I wonder what the researchers expect to gain from their findings? If the kill joys removed the magic in favour of stark realism there would be an awful lot of disappointed kids out there – both old and young. Hands off Disney I say!

When I watch a Disney film I want to be sucked into a magical world. I want to be happy and relaxed.

Life is hard and that is just the way that it is.

Keep Disney for us children.

You've not seen Corbyn, Galloway, and Diane Abbott, when they've had a sherbet and let their hair down. If you had you'd not say that.^^^

Shudder. Where's that mind bleach?
I think a film about a big bad troll called Righty would address the lack of reality. Now.....who to cast in the roll......?
I always thought Uncle Remus in the Brer Rabbit tales seemed more than content with his lot.
Cinderella- Lesbian architect who can only get work as a cleaner due to her immigration status. Dies because of Tory NHS cuts. The End.
Personally I can never forgive Disney for ruining my childhood favourite Winnie the Pooh.
If you want an example of children's stories with a dark side you only need to look as far as Roald Dahl.

And to answer your question Naomi, no disney does not need to portray reality.

It's called entertainment.
Is traducing our next PM and one of his colleagues allowed here?
I wasnt speaking badly, it is widley known fact, except for the Gallowy bit you introduced.

And yes we can speak badly about leader past, future or present. Well until Comrade Corbyn gets in and puts the final nail in free speech.
No.
I must say that those films with light sabers are terribly unrealistic.
Disney is entertainment - not everything has to trumpet some cause or other. There are to many downers in TV and Movies as it is

Marshwarble, haha! You sound like my mother-in-law whose response to the most outlandish science fiction films was usually something like, ‘Well, it was a bit unbelievable!” :o)
