Prudie...when the DARA facility was cancelled in 2010, it was a major blow to jobs in the area. Millions of pounds had been spent there and it barely got going before it was closed again.

Its a huge site and all the other jobs that will be created to supply it will be a shot in the arm for one of Wale's worst unemployment blackspots.

I don't wish to make this a party-political issue but whoever is responsible for getting ths located to Wales deserves all the praise going. It just shows what can be done when the will is there.

Yes mikey, it went from DARA to DSG and then got shut (Govt decision). I know many of the St Athan staff who lost their jobs or had to relocate miles

I remember RAF St Athan as the main depot for driver training in the service.

I spent a week at R.A.F. St. Athan as an A.T.C. cadet in the late '50s. Went for a short flight in a Chipmunk over the Bristol Channel.
