I have put nill for 27 across.( means will not which ties in with 10 across ' will'.

29 across is Faberge

Nill--- I have taken 'top of pole' to be 'n' and badly 'ill' and then as nill means will not it would be opposed to will. Hope my logic is right.Have inked it in now so fingers crossed.

hello Murielmci    I got the guardian this week and as you had a couple of clues throught would give it a try but a bit beyond me Please could I ask if you would help with  1a.   12a I don't understand at all any help

Firstly let me say there is a Shakespeare theme running through many of the clues.  There often (too often! is a theme with the guardian.

I reckoned 1a was

- s - - * * * -  regurgitated slime

b is born so we now have

s - - * * * b but I never did work out what the colt had to do with uc so sorry!

19a aguecheek - he was a knight in a shakespeare play.

26a - a play on them elves and themselves.

Hope this helps - I am not hot on the guardian but am trying to build up to it.  I remember when I thought the times hard and now I do both it and the jumbo of a Saturday morning - so stick with it.

Many THanks  and tip of shakespeare  I have all the works and list of characters  I got this paper on sat for DVD  have times and telegraph and been doing Times Sat T2 for years with use of dictionary new to the  web have only had lap top for a few months and only in the last couple of months have I do cryptic and I won the Daily Mail crossword �20  cryptic in second week I was amazed  grateful for help. good luck    I enjoy shakespeare not been stratford much this year but next every play and sonnet is being performed by top actors
