Music Before The Eighties Never Played On The Radio

Apart from the few oldies stations and Radio 2 occasionally, why is it that the vast majority of radio stations never play anything older than the eighties?

Johnnie Walker has a great "Sounds of the Seventies" Sunday afternoons at 3pm. Plus there is Sounds of the Sixties at 8am Saturday mornings, poor Brian Mathew has not been well though and Tim Rice has been standing in for the last 2 weeks. Both shows are available from the Beeb IPlayer.
