I am really stuck.....have tried everything but can't get 22a Main or essential feature - Could be Control--- or Central--- and 16d set of half a dozen -e---t-e.   Anyone help? Many thanks in advance.

22a. I have struggled on this one too! I think it is centrality - city with anagram of rental? Part of the cryptic clue in my paper is obliterated which didn't help!

16d Can anyone explain why it's sestette rather than sextette please? Many thanks

According to Chambers Dictionary, it could be sextette, since that is seen as an alternative spelling of 'sestet' just as sestette is. However, The Oxford English Dictionary - the word 'bible' does not offer the 'x' version as an option. Take your pick, really, unless the letter is checked by a crossing answer.

Thank you very much quizmonster. I think I'm going with sextette now as 'gets essential part of letter' would indicate text. The whole clue is 'Group of six in church office gets essential part of letter'.  Would you agree?
