Faulty Word screen

Quite often when I open a doc in Word it'll work fine for a while and then for no apparent reason a small part of the screen will 'go missing'. I'm not sure how to describe it but for example, just now I clicked to format the footer and the header and footer task bar appeared, now, even though I have closed the task bar it won't go away, it is not active and there's nothing I can do to it but it just stays there.

If I leave word and go to my Explorer window when I come back to Word the bar has gone but in its place it'll be that part of the explorer window I had opened before, just in that same little rectangle. Like now, if I go back in that space will appear a part of this website, but if I open a new document that will go, it'll just stay in this particular document With some docs this happens every time I work on it, and others just every now and then.

Please only answer if you know what I'm on about cause otherwise other people see it's got 1 answer and just think it's been resolved and don't bother answering.

Thanks very much in advance!

You don't say what version of Word you're using, but this was common with Word XP, and was fixed by downloading the latest service packs for Word XP or Office XP.

Could be a graphics card driver problem? Any changes been made recently?

It's my work computer and I work for a big University so I think they'll have all the service packs installed, one of the computer guys yesterday rebooted my drive and did something to the graphic card but still haven't fixed the problem.

I use XP and Word 2002, I have 1.92 GB of memory left, so I don't think that is the problem. Other details that may help...

Pentium (R) CPU 2.0 GHz, 1.99 GHz, 512 Mb of RAM

Thanks for your help, guys!
