16d. Group of six in church office gets essential part of letter. Can anyone please confirm either sestette or sextette for the answer. I think 'the church office' part is 'see' but cant fathom the rest. Many thanks.

Sextet.('see' and 'text')

Think it is sextette which is a group of six whereas sestette is a piece of music for six (I think).

Now that I have seen the whole clue for the first time, I can confirm that it is sextette...as was suggested in an earlier answer. The 'sext' refers to the 6th hour of the canonical day...ie a church 'office'...and the letters 'ette' are the centre...ie essential part...of 'letter'.

I should have added above perhaps that sextette is one way of spelling sextet, a group of six.
