A moderate puzzle this week, methinks, with our author back in one of his favourite haunts, uncovering further contributions by the Stevenson Family to the NLB among piratical and nordic violent historical episodes?

I don't think the Roman Empire extended that far and if it did it would have been only in small numbers. The odd fragments of pottery and artefacts found in the area might well have come from the locals sailing South (ish) to their nearest Trading Post rather than as a consequence of invasion. Perhaps it was a boat ride too far?

Sigh! Having read (but not processed the thought properly),as to Moira's suggestion of the island location, I initially connected St Mary's Island Chatham to London LCY - (not London Bay) - then looked at the map and route directions to the Orkneys (via St Mary's Whitley Bay) which was, more or less the right heading . Unfortunately, the result was a written response which was simply urble, burble, blurble, blurp! A C.R.A.F.T. (Can't Remember A Flipping Thing) moment. Sincere apologies to all . . .
