'Root of hemlock digg'd i' the dark.'

Is there another word for hemlock?
Apiaceae?

to tilly2 bookbinder and captain 2 thank you so much its driving me nuts i will look in to other names for hemlock but its a bit obscure for a question thanks tiffy
Where did you see '8 letters was right' tiffy?
Also yewslips. But not sure that's a root.
The question does seem to be rather unfair, given that Shakespeare did not (apparently) specify the 'insane root'.
Plus, hemlock kills rather than makes you insane. :-)
