Spoilers ... (Again)
124 Answers
Wimbledon starts tomorrow ... and there are many other major sporting events on the horizon (including the final Lions test in NZ) - so a polite request on behalf of all people who can't watch matches 'live' ...
Can I remind posters that the outgoing AB_ED agreed with several posts from LiK and others (including me) that it is polite for posters to avoid revealing the result of a major sporting contest (or even the result or plot of a TV show) in the title or first post of a thread. Such posts are thoughtless and antisocial and risk deletion if the Ed or a Mod thinks they are unhelpful.
It's not exactly rocket science to have a title that says, for example, "Murray Match" with an OP that simply says "Spoiler Alert".
Then you reply to your own thread with "Andy still Scottish after he tanks again" or "Andy the Brit rides on" as appropriate.
I know that there are differing views on this, but it has been endorsed as current practice under the "politeness to other members" site rule.

"I'm off home to watch "Match of the day" (Spurs vs Arsenal, I think).
At that time MotD consisted of recorded highlights of one of the day's matches which had been played earlier.
"Oh right" said Granddad, "I'd better not tell you the result, then. But you won't see any goals!"

No, Ducksie....it's not a don't post request and not an only post on a certain thread request.....and nobody's being superior.....
It's just asking folk that if they have watched the match or whatever live to not put the result in their title or opening post....
That way those of us who work or are not able to watch live but enjoy AB can still look in here and also have the pleasure of watching a match or game later on catch up or recorded without knowing the result.....
It's not dictating..and it's not difficult....in fact it's thoughtful.... for those who've watched it live to post and chat away to their heart's content on a thread without spoiling it for the rest of us......I think that's fair enough.....everybody wins....x

It's fair if there is an innocent thread running with great interest and someone starts a new one spoiling it for us.......
I think I know when you mean...there was a good non spoiler thread going when someone posted a new spoiler......
I can't watch Wimbledon during the day....but I pop in and out of AB....
It'll be nice if those chatting about the day's matches don't spoil it for those watching later....it's polite really, Ducksie.....and takes nothing away from those daytime watchers....
As I say....they can easily chat till the cows come home without spoiling it for others.....then we can all enjoy...x

gness, I totally get and agree with what you are saying, I'm actually referring to a post that really irked me and other abers at the time, there was a thread running, ever so innocent when another aber came in and said only comment here on the item being discussed, that really got on my goat, I do agree, not all can watch live commentary, just don't tell those who are 'not to post' that's my point. I'd give leeway but won't be told not to - I had enough of that living under someone's thumb. In the main, I do agree - but goodness, it's only sports at end of day, if we did this with GAA we'd be thrown out of the county
