I think it is very sad, but the wee mite should be allowed to pass, delaying the inevitable is not helping

quality of life has to be a consideration too and his parents will not be able to care for him round the clock forever...I would weigh up all medical evidence ..and would not want a child to suffer all its life however long that may be.... not easy and very emotive...

Minty...I have just stared a new thread on this. I heard his Mum being interviewed this morning, and she made a very powerful case for allowing him to go to America for treatment.

I have a severely disabled cousin and she's enriched her parents life. They can care for him 24/7.

as she would Mikey and rightly so..but when the US medics have now agreed with Gt Ormond St that their intervention will be of no use... ??

Poor little boy, and poor parents. Very difficult situation. I think he should be allowed to go in peace.

My cousin is nearly 50 now, Minty. They said she wouldn't survive past toddler age, she'd never be able to walk or talk. They were wrong.

It just said on the news that 7 doctors have offered to help so there must be some hope. He just needs assistance with breathing so he is fit to fly.

If he was my boy I wouldn't give up hope.

This is, without doubt, a difficult case. His Mum this morning was understandably extremely keen to allow him one more chance, and who can blame her. In her position, I would be exactly the same.

absolutely..however..when will that last chance be decided...how many last chances will there be ? ..meanwhile the child exists artificially in limbo ....

A terrible situation, but if I understand it correctly, he is not 'alive' in any meaningful way. He has no brain function and is kept breathing only by a ventilator and can only be fed intravenously .

Eddie...I am not entirely sure here but his brain is not dead, as it is producing some activity.......he is not "brain stem dead, as it is normally called.

Can't see the problem and getting rather tired of the constant media reporting.
The "offspring" has a medical condition, rare, not curable and is not consistent with life as the majority of us knows this.
They can have another child.........
Turn off the ventilator ........for the child's sake, if nothing else.
If the parents divorce, or indeed, die or killed in some way.......who will look after the child?
Someone must make a decision and the echelon of the Law has made it.
