Has everybody watched Usain's last individual race and then had an early night? TV is a bit boring, as usual, thought I might find an interesting conversation here.

I've started to record 'Outlander' on Thursdays, so I have something to watch on Saturdays, when TV's always duff (and I can whizz through its many, many adverts)
Question Author
My wife is currently re reading the whole series of novels and refuses to watch it on TV.
I think it's really well done, but very slow - I'm afraid I fast-forwarded a little bit tonight!
I felt Bolt might not get the gold. I thought he might get silver, but no, he finishes with a bronze. He still has a chance in the relay.
I've never really been interested in athletics. Even when I do watch it, I'd much rather watch a race over a decent distance (such as 5000m), rather than a sprint.

It's possibly too early for any real life yet in CB. Most people are probably still staggering back from the pub (or, like me, trying to work out how much Chardonnay they can drink before everything starts swimming about in front of their eyes!)
Question Author
I found it difficult to watch a two time drug cheat winning. I don't like booing but I could understand how people feel.
I'm no particular fan of Bolt's, but he strikes me as good-natured and not at all affected by his fame; I'd like to see him bow out with a gold in the relay. I wonder why he's not doing the 200m, which he's previously said is his favourite event.
Question Author
Hi goodgoalie, I guess that with the 100m thought off as the Blue Riband event, that's the one Bolt wanted to win. Maybe with all the heats involved he thought one individual event was enough.
>>> I guess that with the 100m thought off as the Blue Riband event . . .

I've always wondered why that is. After all, it's basically about little more than muscle strength, whereas a distance race (such as 5k or a marathon) has as much to do with race tactics as it does with strength and stamina. To me, there's real 'craftmanship' in winning a distance race but none at all in winning a sprint.

I totally agree Buenchico, I suppose it's the usual tight finish, times coming down over the years and could be thought off as quite exciting.

I understand what you mean, Chris. But I have always enjoyed watching a quarter mile drag race much more than I like watching a formula one race.
Those drag queens really can run fast Tony.
Doh.

Must be disappointed then, SapeleSam.
I don't watch much sport at all but did watch the Hobbity film, that was good.

I am loving Outlander, personally don't find it slow - it's quite different from the usual.
Will I find that on BBC iplayer, Mamya ?.
Not the Hobbity thing.
Ch4 Tony, do they have a catch up thingy?
Thanks Mamya, will see if I can find the Ch4 thingamabob tomorrow.
