Strictly speaking, "upside down" isn't what you mean. You mean "rotated through 180 degrees".

E.g. if you flip "pod" upside down, it says "bop".
Or "bog" or "boq" depending on the font!
try . . . suns
An English dictionary in Austraaaaaalya.
NOON (if in upper case - not lower)
"suns" upside down says "snus" and the "s" are the wrong way round. Hold a mirror to the screen and you'll see it.
"NOON" upside down doesn't work either - the "N" are the wrong way round, like in Cyrillic.
mow

> E.g. if you flip "pod" upside down, it says "bop".

"boq" by that logic, but I think the question is fair enough ... i.e. if the word is written on a piece of paper, and you turn the paper upside down, it still reads the same.

> Hold a mirror to the screen and you'll see it

No, turn the screen upside down and you will see it!

Hmmm - I mean if you write a word on a piece of paper and turn it upside down. So suns would work.
As previously, you don't actually mean "upside down" - you mean "rotate through 180 degrees". They aren't the same.

But mirrored words don't make sense when they are mirrored, and certainly can't be read the same way because they create letters that don't exist eg backwards s !!
Assuming you keep to a simple font and only use lower case then, I think that words that will read upside down will need to contain combinations of the following letters:-
z x u n l i p d w m o s
That's right!
Seen at local sports centre:
Now no swims on Mon
:-)
Now no swims on Mon . . . when read upside down . . . I think, would be:- uoW uo swims ou moN
davegosling, if somebody handed me a newspaper the wrong way up, I'd describe it as upside down, not rotated through 180 degrees ... although that is also correct.

Another example: at a job interview the interviewer may have the questions on a sheet of paper in front of her; if the interviewee can read upside down, he may be able to prepare answers for questions that haven't yet been asked.
Just 3 letter ones...
dip mow sis oxo :-)
NOON
Further to my post @ 17:25 you can include in upper case, the letter H
