Thanks for answer for 1 down

Rum and water clue is now ?A? as the "a" of strap (1 down clue) cuts through 9 across

It might be BAY, but I can't see an exact definition for this. This is the closest I've found:

bay rum
n.
An aromatic liquid originally prepared by distilling the leaves of the bay rum tree in rum and water but now usually made by mixing the oil from those leaves with other solvents.

Anyone have a beter idea?
