Does anyone use a food hygiene ratings app , when buying food from takeaways , restaurants
etc - to decide where to buy

When looking to eat out, yes. That said I've had breakfast at a local place a few times, and it hasn't scored well. Was surprised when I discovered this. I'm rather hoping they are overdue another inspection visit.

if going to a new place I always check out the loos..if they are dodgy..then I rather suspect the kitchen too and leave...

You could wonder around all night with that method mm:-). Easier with an App I think.

Lol, I’ve never heard of one of those but it sounds excessive and would be seen as such especially when with friends after a night out when grabbing a kebab or burger. It’s just one short stop before putting on the white gloves and running your fingers around the establishment before pulling out a clipboard with hygiene related questions to grill the owners with, I think I’d be quickly given a white coat to go with my white gloves.

Try going abroad and eating street food whilst gazing at the feral dogs, cats and rats under your table, take that trip advisor! Lol

Look at the 'scores on the doors' rating 1 to 5 stars displayed where it can be seen by customers.

5 of us went to a local restaurant and 3 went down with food poisoning. I went back to check their star rating but could not find it.
Eventually I found it at the far end of a corridor that was marked 'Staff only' it was 1 star 'Needs Improvement'
I will never eat there again.

Not all show them. I recall hearing a radio programme not so long ago about making it compulsory over the whole UK. Sounds reasonable to me, but there needs to be more regular inspections or the rating could be out of date.

I don't look for ratings before I eat somewhere. I do notice them if they're posted in the window, but of course the restaurant is not going to post up a poor rating.

I wouldn't eat anywhere that doesn't have a scores on the door sticker with a rating of at least 4 out of 5. If there's no sticker at all it's bound to be very dodgy indeed.

The problem with these ratings is that they can get marked down because the sign above the door is slightly dirty or the spelling of an item in the fridge is wrong.
