We don't have a car so buying items from IKEA can be a problem. I see they do a pick and deliver system which sounds just what we need. But will this include small items or just large items? Obviously I would not expect to use the service for a bath mat! But I do need a lot of kitchen/bathroom items.

I'm not sure about the items but I'd check the cost of delivery before shopping. When I've looked up delivery costs previously they were so expensive relative to the items I was looking at. Not light items either, bookcase/shelving units.
Looks like there is a cheaper option for smaller items but via Parcelforce: http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/customer-service/services-at-ikea/home-delivery/
I think you can pick in store and have delivered whatever you want if you will pay for it....guessing not plants and flowers though!

it costs a bit...scroll down

If you order online you can get single items up to 25 kg or multiple items up to 100 kg delivered by parcel force for £7.50 - a lot cheaper than picking with delivery at £35
