It's a multi layered recipe - dal (yellow dried split peas),spices would be my shout if you can only have two.

not sure its any help, because it lists all the ingredients,
split peas are one and i would say cumin for the other.

It's your choice really, I'd put spices.

Then there's garlic,onions etc - not a good question.
