Finally I have two answers for another clue which is "possibly a cereal crop" wheatear or corn rake what do you think
Also "could this be us in a muddle" auk or ruc
I personally would go for auk. Never heard of a ruc as a bird.

'this' EMU if 'us' would give EMUS (in BE = BEMUSE 'muddle')?
A roc is, or was, a bird.
Roc doesn't fit the clue though.
emu in bemused looksat least as good as auk to me. I suggested AUK initially but although there is a case for A+UK I'm not sure where muddle fits in
