thank-you, it's just that there are 30 questions in all and all the other 29 are the names of 'proper' sports i.e. snooker, rugby, squash, diving, etc, etc. and so 'hot potato' would be out of context.
I am not saying that is wrong but with all the others being as said, all well known sports, and also the clue is ? potatoes not potato.
I think when we've got it it will be worked out something like jj109's croquet but in this case croquette is a dish that contains more ingrediants than potatoes, I still think it is ? potatoes with the ? being the sport, thanks all

Even though they may have other ingredients as well as potato they are still called Croquette Potatoes or potato croquettes. I don't think you are going to get a better answer than croquet.
