Banks for instance seize power from usurpers (12). The answer appears to be MONEYLENDERS from the first part of the clue but I don't get the cryptic element. Can anyone explain please? Thanks.

Just worked it out - it's USUR(P)ERS to make USURERS. Thanks anyway.
Usurpers minus p(power) = usurers (money lenders)
