Beckham's Speeding Fine - And Escape.

The media has got itself into a massive robble about David Beckham's speeding fine, and the fact that he has employed an expensive lawyer who has managed to get the case thrown out.

The Mail especially has vilified Mr Beckham, criticising his spending on wine, his marriage, his image, and so on - all completely irrelevant to the issue - in a manner that is utterly beyond reason.

Let me declare from the outset - I do not for one moment condone Mr Beckham's offence, which is serious, and irresponsible.

But the fact remains, his case was dismissed on a technicality - he has not broken to law to have his case thrown out, his lawyer has used legal process open to anyone in the same position.

I've read the legal aspects too, they should get better at those.

Anybody normal would probably have had to take it on the chin. He got off for a valid reason but I can only imagine he went this route as he's close to the totting up ban otherwise why bother.

Don't let's be naive here, it is the way of the world, it's what happens every day of every year throughout the world. Rich parties, influential people, all have something to bargain and escape justice, in this case speeding.
Beckham's lawyer was smarter than the opposition in this case and i remember when Sir Alex Ferguson was caught speeding it was because he had to drive home at speed for obvious reasons and was not charged.
For me, i was caught speeding on my way home one evening and it just happened that the wife of the P.C on the radar trap was on my waiting list for operation. She was operated on the following week and I wasn't reported for speeding.
This is the way of the world.......you scratch my back and i will scratch yours.
So what do i think? No big deal.

He wasn't close to a ban. Just wanted to, for whatever reason to keep his licence with no points on it. Anyone could and can have pleaded the same reasons to have the case dismissed. He's just in the fortunate position to hire a lawyer who knows the law forwards, backwards and sideways.

I don't resent him escaping it.. I just detest the smug grin he displayed when leaving court. Would he feel so smug had he failed to brake in time and killed a pedestrian. In 50 yrs of driving I have never received a caution or a summons. Should I do,God forbid,will he pay my fine or Barristers fees to defend me on a technicality? If he is liable to a tot up and disqual then perhaps that would be a better alternative but we can't argue an administritive error. As I always used to say when this sort evaded the punishment, "You'll wait"

im guessing he uses a template...looks for the obvious first as in this case dates, then drills down to more specific details like other inaccuracies...as opposed to fighting the case on rights or wrongs based on evidence

If the police had been more efficient, there wouldn’t have been any ‘technicalities’ to use in defence.

I would hope that Bentley Motors who appear to be the registered keeper have not told,or been asked by the police.who was driving their vehicle at the time of the alleged offence by boy Beckam otherwise they should be facing charges.
Any facts to follow that ZM. Was this a Gatso or a pursuit speed prosecution. I can't be bothered to look?

Why are you speculating that Bentley motors weren’t asked who was driving?

Normally it is a requirement that the registered owner of a vehicle is asked who was driving at the time of the offence so a summons is sent to the driver at that time. I am speculating nothing. If the registered keeper failed to disclose the driver's details within the time frame required by law (14days for a NIP) then they must hold some responsibility. Sec 172 RTA 1988.
