Please consider the millions of animals who worked and died alongside humans in all our conflicts.
If you can track down a purple poppy wear it alongside the red one as our horses, mules, camels, dogs, cats, pigeons, etc were beside our military personnel. If not support the humane society by getting a purple paw badge which they designed to replace their poppy in 2015.

THEY HAD NO CHOICE

Sorry Ed, I know this is technically an advert but we still have animals in battlegrounds, defending bases, looking for explosives, and finding landmines.

No chance. The animals were just as useful as weapons. They served a purpose. Why don't you design one for all the animals that are slaughtered for human consumption? Have they got a choice then?

I accept your opinion, it would be good if we were not omnivores. There are plenty of militant veggie campaigns for example meat is murder.
The purple paw campaign extends to other ways in which our treatment of animals is cruel, unreasonable and unethical.
I never eat meat or fish without respect for its life. Without gratitude . And only buy from registered humane sources.
I have had rescued animals most of my life and support animal charities. No they do not have a choice, I do.
Thanks Rowanwitch, I shall be getting myself a badge and hopefully a purple poppy.

It's a talking point as well
I agree with you entirely, rowanwitch.
Have just ordered a badge but got sidetracked with chocolates and shampoo as well!
Have had a purple poppy in the past but can no longer get them in the town.
Thanks for link.

Have you seen the statue in London, it's very moving

Seen pictures of it but doubt if I will ever go to London again and see the real thing.
I agree, very moving.
It is a nice thought but as Clarion says a bit hypocritical when animals are slaughtered everyday so that people can enjoy eating them. They don't have a choice do they?
Question Author
I think there is difference between using animals for food if you source humanely raised and properly slaughtered animals and only use what you need, and taking them into a war zone where they will be terrified, and potentially injured with no one to end their pain or tend their injuries.

Will do if I can find one, Rowan.
I need a bigger lapel.
Red poppy, white poppy, purple poppy, green ribbon, red ribbon, yellow ribbon, white ribbon, rainbow ribbon, and then try to find room for the badges.
Got to be inclusive ain't I?
Just remembered - all the wrist bands!
No one has to do anything - all are choices.

The young men were used as weapons and cannon fodder, they never had a choice either.
Think I will stick with my red poppy thanks. The men who were slaughtered had no choice either, even though they were in the main thoughtful caring family men in the main, with wives, sisters, aunts and grandmothers. If the sellers of pink, orange, purple, white or rainbow poppies feel the need to mourn for other entities let them set up a separate "appeal" that is not linked to the very noble British Legion effort, or designed to lessen the sacrifice of millions of innocent men and their bereaved families. I wonder how many purchasers of purple poppies actually lost horses, dogs, or pigeons from their grandparents vast estate farms?
Why doesn’t someone make a poppy which is like a pie chart, instead of making people pledge their remembrance to one particular aspect of war, which is indescribably horiffic for many aspects of life on Earth?
The other organisations have set up their own appeals, they are not encroaching on the work done by RBL.
Yes, I will wear both my red AND purple poppies with pride.
