Does it matter if u use a 2nd class stamp for comps? I have always used 2nd but never win, I recently read a mag article where the person who states she wins a lot said always post your entry 1st class.

Why would you waste money using first class when it is not necessary to do so? The only criterion to be used, surely, is whether a second class stamp would enable your entry to get there before the closing date of the competition - if unsure, yes use a first class stamp but if you have time enough then use a second class stamp and save your money for a go at another competition (maybe).

This person is talking a load of old rubbish as far as I am concerned. She may have money to waste to always use first class stamps but why do so when you don't have to?

I always use first-class, mainly because in the past I have experienced so many cases of letters taking up to a week (honestly) to be delivered.
Only last week, I posted a letter to an address five miles away. I sent it first class and it arrived 2 days later. Hardly fills you with confidence. So for me, second class for comps is definitely out. I send in the DTel. Saturday GK puzzle each week, and like to have it in the post, 1st. class, by Monday to ensure it gets there for Wednesday. I post the Mail on Sunday puzzle no later than Wednesday for (hopefully) delivery Friday.

Don't know about stamps, but I went through 2 trying out phases:

a) posting the day before deadline with a 1st class stamp - in case they didn't mix them up properly and mine stayed on the top being one of the last to arrive

b) posting asap, in case they don't mix them up but simply open the first few that arrive and disregard the rest (you don' know!)

The only time I won was when I posted last minute and that was 25 with the Sunday Express General Knowledge Crossword.

I reckon though it's just a lottery. So many people send in entries, you're just lucky if you get drawn out or whatever way they do it. Of course, you still have to have all the right answers!

Tried early and late posting, as above, even tried using coloured envelopes some years age. I have won most of the main prizes,eg Times, Independant and Telegraph, but I have won just as many by submitting over the internet.I would say that you pays your money and you takes your pick (though the internet is the cheapest).
It depends when the closing date is but also what the prize is!!
