Thanks . Now I get it. (Fruit trees URE)
I've no better suggestion, but what has 'fig' to do with Christmas?
figgy pudding?
Of course elliemay, the first thing on my Christmas shopping list!! ;)))
Just for you, Captain:
// Oh, bring us some figgy pudding,
Oh, bring us some figgy pudding,
Oh, bring us some figgy pudding,
And bring it right here.
Good tidings we bring
To you and your kin;
We wish you a merry Christmas
And a happy New Year!//
Hi. Can anyone explain why fruit trees are called “ure “?
Just to be different, could it be fir (tree) and sounds like fur (down)
Actually down is more 'feathers' than 'fur' so maybe that's a blind alley. looks like fig then
Irelandscall

Ure Pear is a small tree that is commonly grown for its edible qualities. It produces small chartreuse oblong pears (which are botanically known as 'pomes') with hints of yellow and white flesh which are usually ready for picking from late summer to early fall.
Thank you!
Just got the solution in the latest RTE Guide and surprisingly the answer was "FIR".
Fir fig's sake! (Am I allowed to say that?)
:)
