Old Court Cases - Where To Find Details.

Can anyone help with this please? I want to find the record of a court case from 2009. I know the date, the name of the defendant and the place of the trial but I have been unable to find any reference to it when I Google it. I'm sure there's a web site that has court case rcords. This case was unusual because both the defence and prosecution barristers met with the accused to advise that the case was being dropped under unusual circumstances and it would set a precedent for the future. I would be grateful if anyone can tell me where I might find the relevant record of this case. Thanks.

The website you're probably thinking of is lawpages.com. However, to the best of my knowledge, it only records the outcomes of trial and (where appropriate) sentences. It won't record legal arguments which may have been used, especially if the case was actually dropped anyway.

You could try this search facility from the Law Society

but I think that you might struggle to fins any online references to th case, especially if the defendant has exercised his legal right to force Gogle to remove links to it (under the EU's 'right to be forgotten' ruling).

Thanks Chris. Where would there be reference to the legal arguments? I know both barristers said the case would set a legal precedent and WOULD be refered to in the future. Would it be in one of those red, leather bound books that we see on the shelves behind legal people on the TV sometimes?

fascinating - I originally thought it might be a Galbraith plea but that is very old.
Basically a criminal case which is related to acquittal - presumably the judge directed an acquittal - and set a precedent in 2009

not attorney generals permission needed for cross border offences ?

when I am next forced to re read Smith and Hogan I will look out of it

The only thing I would say is that as a crown court case (which I assume this was) it would not really set a precedent.
