Yes he managed to calm a very angry crowd, credit due to him for that, but I doubt if he was in any physical danger himself, him being a Muslim Iman.

What isn't reported though is the fact that on the TV news last night he said that he was in two minds at first whether or not to accept the award, since it had associations with the British Empire.

Does he not realise that if it had not been for the British Empire, he would most likely not now be British subject?

He has a view of the bigger picture, that's for sure.
he'd probably be a subject of a rich and powerful Indian empire that hadn't been looted by the British.
God Almighty.
No.
He looks happy enough to be accepting it in the photos, so his worries about the empire must have subsided.

They should do away with those empire medals anyway, and replace them with something else, named after something that still exists perhaps.
Forgot to answer the question - an OBE does seem over the top for that single act. Perhaps he's done loads of other 'service to the community' type stuff that we're unaware of.
I question his reasons for doing what he did.
Well, I doubt it would have been because he cared about the welfare of the attacker particularly.
Nor me.

Brilliant!

I still think of them as "My Bloody Efforts" and "Others' Bloody Efforts".
I think the credibility of the honours system comes under the spotlight again when you have Harry Kane receiving an OBE for services to football and for England's run to the semi-finals of a WC where nearly all the top countries misfired.

I have no idea who really is worthy of an honour as I'm not sure what the 'real' criteria is....

ver good - so those without empires have no immigration problem you know like the great American Republic ?

Hey Mr Trump - you dont need a southern wall - because you nayver had an Aympire !
// I still think of them as "My Bloody Efforts" and "Others' Bloody Efforts".//

my late grandfather (ICS) would say - other ***' efforts

my dear mother would put a scented hankie to her lips as she whispered these words because they were NOT what a genteel ex-memsahib should say !
//Perhaps he's done loads of other 'service to the community' type stuff that we're unaware of.//

From the link,he has moved to another mosque,in Whitechapel.

Would that amount to a promotion from Finsbury Park?!
// he'd probably be a subject of a rich and powerful Indian empire that hadn't been looted by the British.//

ex imperial propaganda

indian honours have nbot been awarded since 1947 - CIE and GCSI for example
commdr of Indian Empire etc

and as my dear dead grandfather (ICS) wd say.
looting the empire - well where is my share I want to know !
jno, are you British and residing in the UK? Because if so one has to question why given your clear hatred of the country.

AOG, no like many of the other awardees I dont think it is deserved but then most honours are a waste of time these days.
