Planks (6 letters)
Argument (4 letters)

Answer is two words (don't know their length) which sound like the answers to the two questions when said aloud.

Danny - thanks for the answer, but when the two words are said together they should sound like another two words, so timber talk doesn't sound like anything else. Lumber is wood that has been shaped into planks whereas timber is just wood in its original state. I can only think of lumber jack, but jack doesn't mean argument.
