We paid £391 for B&B in York £277 + £54 for 2 x breakfasts for 3 days+ £60 room upgrade, the room was grubby, cracked tiles on the bathroom floor a tiny tv ,I queried the upgrade and was grudgingly given my £60 back, we’ve good friends who live in a beautiful town house in the centre of York who told us to pack and move in with them, I asked for a further refund for the Saturday/Sunday + two breakfast , I was given just the one as ‘he’ said he couldn’t let the room , I asked Why? It had clean bedding ( the only thing that was ) and had been changed with no one having slept in the bed, I’ve been in touch with booking .com who advertise the rooms at £70 per night, I shall take this as far as I can , see what happens
We moved in with our friends and enjoyed the rest of our weekend in luxury surroundings
I won’t be using booking .com again, I was on the phone to their 020 ( London) number for over half an hour then a German gentleman said Thank you for using Booking.com Germany, errr, No I want the UK said I, he transferred me and was on the phone then to an Indian lady which I couldn’t understand at all,for a further 40 minutes
3 Ts I get the feeling someone was trying to make a few bob, I’ve been in touch with the York tourist board and told them that this establishment isn’t exactly selling York
York update, b.com has emailed them and they have not responded so then they rang them and were told the manager wasn’t available today ,b.com said they’d carry on trying to get a response from them and keep me informed , mmmm, might have to name and shame this establishment now :0)
Now I know why the Grand old duke of York who had ten thousand men, marched them up to the top of the hill and marched them down again. Give em hell bobbs!!
You should tell them you’re going to name and shame them. Despite us having paid for extra insurance, a well-known European car hire company took about £500 on our credit card for scratches to a returned vehicle when there were no scratches. We said we would put it on every internet outlet available and lo and behold, within hours they changed their mind and refunded our money.
As an aside I never understand why anyone books random hotels. Far better to book a known ‘brand’. Regardless of star rating, from Premier Inn to the Waldorf, they’re all a bit like McDonalds insofar as you know what you’re getting before you arrive.
They couldn't care a toss about spoiling folks holidays in this country, one, because nine times out of ten people give up, and they get away with it. Just keep nibbling away at it for as long as it takes, week after week if need be, have a day off now and again, and then start nibbling again. :0)
