Thank you all for your efforts in helping me with this clue - I must be missing something obvious because I'm still struggling. Being a theatrical type I think I've got bogged down the plays. Is it to do with one of the characters ?

Thank you for your hints - I'd got as far as identifying Mack the Knife but can't find the link to the name required given the letter count of 4,7 3,6,4,2,8.
Whilst the other clues were challenging I have managed all those but this one !!! I might just have to give up !!!!!

Are you sure of the word count? Mack the Knife (cocktail) seems the obvious answer although Mack (MacHeath) was the leader of the gang and therefore not really a member of Macheath's gang.
