The Guardian And "censorship".
At present i am on the DMs and the Guardians comments sections..and on AB of course. However i have to wonder at the Guardian. At the top of my page they say that my comments are being censored and pre- moderated, yet at the bottom of the page there is a begging letter from the Guardian asking for money to help prevent censorship in the media.Strange newspaper the Guardian.

The Guardian, like AB has an editorial policy and has to comply with the law in terms of libel, defamation, race and sex discrimination. So it is perfectly proper and reasonable that they moderate the comments section.
I have a friend who likes to troll Daily Mail readers, and his posts are often deleted, so I think the DM also censor comments.
Censorship of posts on a forum is entirely different from Governmental censorship such as preventing the publication of a report for several weeks until after a General Election.

Here are the Guardian’s Site Rules.

All seems very reasonable to me.

If the Guardian actually set up a pay wall they wouldn’t have to prick our consciences with “begging letters”
The Times attracts subscribers because people trust it as an authoritative news source and I’m sure the Guardian would be too.
You wouldn’t expect to pick up a paper copy free so why should online be different?
The Daily Mail swamps its site with intrusive advertising as far as I can see so presumably that is how it finances itself.
As Gromit points out, moderation of readers comments is a far cry from news censorship

// it [TheGuardian] is a major newspaper, its owner is some Russian multi-millionaire. //
No it isn’t.
// It shouldnt have to embarrass themselves and their readers by dangling a plastic cup outside their front door.It makes it look as though they have a miniscule readership. //
It does have a minuscule readership (about a tenth of the Daily Mail) and is losing money.
