Ground to a halt with one letter to find :-(
With cereal disease dry stalk leads to thin yield: b-nty
I can find three possible solutions, but none of them seem to provide the whole answer.
In order of preference:
My Chambers has bunt as a disease of wheat, but the only bunty is from the same root, which seems a cop out.
Bent is a type of wiry grass, adjective benty, which would be a thin yield.
Ben is a type of tropical tree, with t(hin) y(ield)
None of them really satisfies me, but these clues are usually watertight. Please help.
