When Yesterday And Gold Channels

Show repeats of classic programmes such as Open all hours or Rising Damp, do they show them from master tapes or do they just slap a DVD into a slot?
Apologies if it’s a bit random but it’s always puzzled me.

I'd be very surprised if such programes haven't been converted to a digital format, roughly similar to the standard MP4 format that's commonly used by home video cameras and by Youtube, etc. (However the actual format used by broadcasters is more likely to be one called '50i').

Then all of the programming content can be stored on computer servers and, just like uploading a video to Youtube, a programme can be sent for transmission with the click of a mouse button.
