Royal Residences
7 Answers
Out of curiosity, I decided to look up the current and former Royal residences, and I was amazed at the number of properties i.e palaces, castles and mansions there are all over the country.Does the Royal family really need all these properties? It seems some of the places are only used for one week in a year when the Queen visits.

It's one of the reasons I want to explore more of Germany - they must have the biggest and best collection of palaces in the world (although I'm sure someone will be along to correct me if I am wrong and I can almost guess who that is).
When in Munich I visited the Royal Palaces of Neuschwanstein and Linderhof - Linderhof being like a mini Versailles which was built in its image as Ludwig was a huge admirer). Unfortunately I did not get time to visit Lymphenburg but will do at some point when I go back for Oktoberfest.
The palaces in this country bring in a lost of tourism and should be preserved at all costs.

LadyCG There are palaces and castles I've never heard of, and what happens when someone moves out? What will happen to Frogmore cottage having had all that money spent on it.Surely they don't believe the Sussex's will come back and live there.I bet there are lots of empty apartments in the palaces as well.
