When Did You Last Use Cheques?
39 Answers
Just had a new fan put in one of the ovens and had my card ready to pay when the repair man asked for cash or a cheque. Had to go upstairs and look through the files to see if I still had a chequebook and luckily found it. The last cheque I wrote was in August 2013. The shop we bought the cooker from is closed at the moment but they are still doing repairs but no means of accepting card payments. Happy with price of £20 callout, new part and labour total £88 but it threw me me when he asked for a cheque.

It seems that I have but it's simply one that I got when I upgraded by Santander account from a 'cash card' one to a 'debit card' one. That was probably about 15 years ago and I've not used a single cheque from it yet.
That's only a 'reserve' account though. I've had my main current account with Barclays for a least a couple of decades and never had a cheque book for it.
I can't remember the last time that anyone paid me by cheque either. The company I occasionally contract for (during non-Covid times), supervising travel surveys across the country, used to pay by cheque but they switched to using bank transfer about a decade ago.

// I pay by bank transfer easier for both parties. //
Try telling that to our coalman! As a business we sometimes struggle to get paid through BACS, especially from the 60 somethings . If we sell anything at the Livestock Mart we get paid by cheque and any entries to agricultural shows had to be paid by cheque, in fact I'm sending off two separate cheques this afternoon for subscriptions to breed societies, so cheques are still very much used in some places.
