Thanks crosswordfan. I wasn't sure if it was the Lee or the Lagan. For the Nile it gave "approx" and anywhere I could find info on the Lee it was 54 miles long, so I thought I was looking for something exactly 50 miles long.

Also, I'm not sure about "the G of 4". Best guess is gang or possibly group - for no other reason than it sounds right. And "L, 3,039 F H". Lugnaquilla??

I found in a number of places that the Lee is 50 miles long - I'm happy with that.

I presume the answer "Gang of Four" refers to China but its also the name of a rock group.

I've just checked this on Google to make sure and the term 'Gang of Four' was used for the four founding members of the Social Democrat Party in 1981. I suspect posting the link here won't work but if you type 'Gang of Four' into Google, it's the sixth reference on the first page.
