Does Othello's no. 17 mean anything to anybody?
Also a childhood game, 'A wild animal plays with the queen. Crofter kindly suggested Tig(er) and, though I don't have any better ideas, I'm not convinced this is right. Any offers or backing for Crofter would be appreciated. Thanks

Yes, I'm sure Crofter is right - 'tiger' is the 'wild animal' part of the clue and is made up of the children's game 'tig' and/playing with 'er' for the queen.

Can't imagine that's right - or it's a very badly written clue. How can 'plays' equate to 'tig', even if it is a game? For a start one's a present verb, the other's a noun. Sorry I can't offer a better answer though - is it definitely 5 letters?
