cleft?
left??
looks better mally
faction?
Left or more likely f(r)action?
Trouble with faction is its not defined or if it s 'result of division' then that bits used twice???
friction?
id go with Mally's
C left looks okay too
. So am stuck. Left over?
a cleft is a division, not quite right, c left... makes sense to me
Yes looks okay as a said. C is about so 'not quite'. Could be setter meant c leave but cleft is best

I know I may be barking up the wrong tree but 'result of division' could be 'friction' and 'it's not quite right' could be 'fiction'

I'll look daft if mallyh's 'cleft' is right after all.

Thanks for setting every day, satprof, looking forward to correct answer.
me too.
you won't look daft, it is just how people interpret the clue x
I think faction is best
Both faction & fraction can be a result of division

Remove the r from fraction
quotient anagram of not quite
nescio's answer looks good to me - 'quotient' fits the 'result of division' definition perfectly
Definitely quotient. Took ages to complete Q = 20
