Today's Alphapuzzle cryptic clue.

@Captain2. As with most things in life, there is no single reason for my posting these daily cryptic clues. Yes, I do think of it as a service to others but I've said in the past that I am still a beginner so far as cryptic clues are concerned. Hence there is also an element of self-education involved.

IMHO, JJ109 hits the nail on the head with his 'free-will' concept. It's not my place to presume how other ABers use the site. I imagine some aren't very good at cryptics but, like me, enjoy the Alphapuzzle format; others will try to solve the clue first and go to AB if they can't do it, or for confirmation.

In my comments, I try to leave maximum challenge for the puzzlers. Generally mouseymick provides sufficient detail to readily solve the puzzle later in the day but leaves enough time for puzzlers not to 'cheat' but to try to find the solution themselves first.

As for 'cheating ', that's fine as well. The world contains human beings of varying levels of capability and it's not for us to exclude anybody.

Finding a home for 'amend' is easy today as M is given. There are two possibilities where M is the second letter of five, but one of them is much more likely to have an E as the third letter.
