I know several people who work for Amazon and whilst it does have it faults, the media do love to have a go and a lot of it is baseless.

I do rather well out of Amazon's deals including their open box stuff which are other people's returns. Mostly its unused stuff or even stuff where the box is badly damaged but occasionally people pull fast ones and return things with crucial parts missing or obviously used. I bought an open box metal framed dog bed that had no bolts and part of the actual frame missing. While the metal could probably be recycled, it would certainly have needed to be disposed of in some way as it was obviously unusable.
