Thanks tonyav like the look of ripple as an answer.
Clue leads to 'Opal fruits' formally known as 'Starburst'?
Sorry wrong way round 'Starburst' became 'Opal Fruits'

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starburst_(candy)
Would that not be 'formerly'?
Still the wrong way round☺ Opal Fruits became Starburst.
Yep ^^^^^^, around the same time as Marathon bars became Snickers.

Sorry douglas9401, after your reply I rang my friend and she checked the quiz sheet and it is definitely "Formally" so that puts a different interpretation on the clue.
Captain2, Starburst fits the number of letters I just don't understand the clue
I am sure Captain is correct, Birdfeeder.

Opal (a hydrated amorphous form of silica) + fruits (seed containers).
So it follows the answer is Starburst ^^
Agree it should be Starburst. Also that it should be 'formerly' rather than 'formally' in order to make the clue work correctly.
