Not looking for answers, but any hints/nudges to help try and make a breakthrough on these questions would be appreciated!
(A) '6 is a commando, 8 is Bill, and 11 disappeared in Singapore, then, keeping it purely literary, in which book did 9 feature?'
(B) 'Aberdeen, Blackburn and Cambridge are linked, as are Bradford, Dundee, Huddersfield, Llandrindod Wells and Watford. Not exhaustive but can you tell us the town/city that, for the same reason, is linked to Cardiff and Wakefield?'

Many thanks for the clues. I've now successfully resolved 'B', very grateful. Still thinking about (A), authors, series etc. but hopefully the penny will drop?!

Did you understand my mention of 'spectacles'?

Etch, ' 'spectacles'? Still struggling I'm afraid (Harry Potter, James Joyce....)

Ramires7, I used 'spectacles' to mean a double letter that looks like a pair of spectacles (used in crossword puzzle clues). Put the 'double letter' in front of the numbers and all should become clear.

Aahh! The penny has dropped! Cracked it thanks to the further nudge (not a fan, so initial clues went over my head).
