Please explain these
1. In the event she gets up in time to take part . Ans horsewoman. I thought of showjumping, cross country and horseracing but can’t see it.
2. Live in luxury with Duke? Ans Dwell . I wondered if it was Do Well abbreviated to d’well. If that is the case then it must be regional, as I’d never miss the o out . Maybe it is something else.
3. Entries made by accountant , also once by son. Ans Items. Accountants do debits and credits and I don’t see item=once . Clearly I’m missing something obvious .
4.Rudimentary plant all but consumed by odd mice. Ans embryonic (rudimentary). Odd mice are mc but can’t see how to get e at the front and bryoni.
embryonic
rudimentary = relating to an undeveloped form
plant = bryon(y) a scrambling climbing plant
all but (=almost) consumed by odd (=jumbled up) mice
EM BRYON IC
3. item = a book-keeping entry; one entry in a set of financial accounts.
once by son = (item) s
s = is an abbreviation of son (Source: Bloomsbury Concise English Dictionary Second Edition)
Thanks, Mamya. 'Horsewoman' is the obvious answer (and I have researched this elsewhere), but maybe it's so obvious that I can't see anything to explain!
