Search Box Only Gives Questions From Random Dates
13 Answers
Hello I'm new here. Been out there for a question answer site since Yahoo answers shut down. Anyway I can't seem to get the search box to give me recent questions just ones from random dates like one question is from 2007 while another is from 2019 on the same page.

I agree that AB's search facility is far from great. For that reason I sometimes use a 'site specific' Google search to find posts on AB. For example, the following search string will find all AB posts with the word 'Boris' in them: boris site:theansw erbank.co.uk [If I wanted to refine that search to only find posts that didn't include 'Johnson', I could use...

Sadly the search facility on this site is very poor, for example do a search for "Random" and your question won't be in it! I cannot fathom what it actually searches, just headings or content or both sometimes neither and gawd knows how it decides what order to present the results in. Clearly it was coded by someone who is clueless about search algorithms.
The AB search is a basket case. The site coding was outsourced to Chile but the devs were all on mind altering drugs. They just copied the code for picking lottery tickets so that when you search you get a totally random answer.
To view recent questions go to the home page and you get the 20 most recent. Then click on page 2, 3, 4, etc to get the previous 20 threads.

For example, the following search string will find all AB posts with the word 'Boris' in them:
boris site:theanswerbank.co.uk
[If I wanted to refine that search to only find posts that didn't include 'Johnson', I could use the following search string]:
boris -johnson site:theanswerbank.co.uk
Once I've done that, I can then click on 'Tools' and change 'Any Time' to show results from the past hour, day, month or year.
Alternatively, if I only wanted to search for results from, say, 2015, I could select 'Custom range' and then define the start and end dates for my search as 1/1/2015 and 12/31/2015 respectively. [Note that, annoyingly, Google uses the US date format].

surely it'd be easier just to type gulliver1 in the Answerbank search box or look at his profile

Nah, surely nobody has time to check through fifty million billion four hundred and eighty six thousand and fourteen and a half threads?
