They were out today...thats a first. I thought they always had bank holidays off...though I did wonder when their next collection would be.
Maybe it's to make room for the 4 day mess that might appear in city centres.

My collections are on Mondays and they collected on the last bank holiday. I was a bit surprised to see them too :o)
Ours collected last bank holiday. I think with the shortages of staff they've had in recent months they are trying to avoid a backlog.

I hadn't thought of a backlog. I hope they are paid double time.
Thursday is the day here usually but it'll be Saturday this week.
Our collections are every thursday and they have just been (all of them, separate lorries for separate boxes/bins) The collections were contracted out to Serco and while ago and they come every thursday regardless of whether there is a bank holiday or not.

I was relieved to see that they came. Our bin store is a bit small for the number of flats and can get over full.
The only days our binmen don't work are Christmas day and boxing day - oh, and every Sunday.
Been that way for at least 6 years
I suspect it is voluntary, at a premium rate.
My bin collection is a Monday and they always come, Bank Holiday or not.
Our area only normally collects Tuesday to Friday, so bank holidays usually don't affect it. This week they are collecting Monday to Thursday.
At my old place the collections were on Thursdays so I wouldn't have known about BH collections. Been at my present abode since August 21 and only just realised they work on BHs.
You might be surprised at the number of people who work on bank holidays, if you never leave the house that is.
Same with weekends

Life goes on.

Thank goodness!! ^^^
Our bin day is monday and the bins have been emptied on Bank Holidays as far back as I can remember. It means that collections for other routes can take place on their usual days. I think they came to an agreement with our council about more money, which is good.
