If the dinosaurs were wiped out by a cataclysmic meteor strike how come other creatures, like birds, reptiles, fish and mammals survived?

Asteroid strike - aquatic animals & small burrowing rodents likely survived in decent numbers. The rest evolved.

davebro: So birds evolved from around 150million years ago? As did horses, sheep and cows? Not making any kind of religious point. Just don't really understand.
The Nuclear winter caused by the meteor killed trees and forests and large animals did not have enough to feed on.
Small animals needed less food, so survived.

But the world was only created 6000 years ago by him upstairs it is writ. How can sane people believe all that rubbish?
