Well done, barry. I was off on the wrong track altogether, thinking about synonyms for strait-laced. (Of course, prim is one, but the combination with ‘we’re’ was beyond me.)

There seem to be only four 6-letter locations in the grid, and two can be eliminated as containing unwanted (given) letters. After that, it’s a question of seeing what will fit, I think.

It's a rectangular grid of squares where each square bears a number 1 to 26 representing a letter of the alphabet. Words are formed when the numbers are replaced by the appropriate letters. A clue is given to a "starter" word.
